Artefact[s] - Making New From That Which Is Foreign (Japan Journal) by Ameer Suhayb Carter  — Sirsu Books

Coming Soon (7/15/20)

Ameer Suhayb Carter (b. 1994) is an artist and designer, founder of Sirsu Goods. His work generally encorporates documentary-like photography to examine the innermost nature of the objects, places, and people captured in his viewfinder. Artefact[s] is his first book.

Artefact[s] —Making New From That Which Is Foreign illuminates the transformative time Ameer had spent in Japan split between Tokyo and Ishikawa in the form of a photo journal recorded during and processed nearly an entire year after his trip concluded.

From the intracies of ritual making through Taiko drumming, to the simple pleasure of eating beef and rice at two in the morning, the collection of experiences in this journal almost feel as if a local handheld you through the isle of Japan—it’s immersive and even though it’s a backseat to the action, you yearn for a chance to experience the world of Japan firsthand.
